My friend invited me out for a quick bite to eat, so I gladly accepted his invitation. After we discussed cuisine, we settled for Japanese. So we left Brooklyn & ventured to Manhattan and ended up at Amber Restaurant.
Entering, I was greeted by an open aquarium of koi fish, at which point I felt the need to touch the biggest fish. I put my finger in the aquarium & big fish and I scared each other witless. I mention this because from the time you enter the restaurant, you’re intrigued. The decor is very pleasant and all the bamboo & greenery takes you aback.
The staff is very accommodating and attentive. The food is very good. We ordered crispy calamari that came with a very yummy & spicy mint peanut sauce for dipping and rock shrimp tempura with a sweet lemon cream. The calamari was perfectly prepared and the shrimp, out of this world! For entrees we had a crab avocado hand roll and a bento box salmon teriyaki which came with miso soup, salad and veggie mini roll. All über tasty!
I have eaten at several Japanese restaurants and Amber is going down in my Top 3. Overall the food was really good & I will definitely return to Amber when time permits. The food is very affordable which is a pleasant surprise for the quality. In this type of economy, Amber in itself is a blessing!
